Intelligent and bourgeoisie, rapper Marvin Young earned a degree in economic science from USC, where he met Michael Ross and Matt Dike, co-founders of the entrant Delicious Vinyl rap ticket. He made his debut as Young MC on the single "I Let 'Em Know." In 1989, Young collaborated with Tone-Loc on "Wild Thing," the number one Top Ten pop make for a black rapper, and the reexamination smash "Funky Cold Medina." Young stepped out on his own later in the year with the Top Ten bang up "Raid a Move," a good-natured exam of romantic successes and failures spiced by his sense of body fluid and quick-tongued rapping. The vocal south Korean won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance, and its strong bug out invoke helped the concomitant record album, Stone Cold Rhymin', go atomic number 78. The followup, "Principal's Office," was a humourous, casual fourth-year high narration resembling a Chuck Berry plot and as well climbed into the Top 40.

Following Young's success, he split acrimoniously from Delicious Vinyl, citing restrictions on his work and unwanted tinkering with his record album; the label sued him for break of undertake and finally settled out of courtroom. Young signed with Capitol and released Brainwave in 1991, expanding into message tracks promoting personal responsibleness. The record album didn't menu as comfortably, and by 1993, audience tastes had shifted towards harder-edged hip-hop, rendering What's the Flavor? a fizzle. In late 2000, he attempted a return with Ain't Going Out Like That on the indie tag Young Man Moving. It didn't make much of an impression in the pat world, but Young well-tried once more in the summertime of 2002 with Engage the Enzyme.

Combining Latin and African rhythms with the calorie-free textures of MOR jazz, Special EFX emerged as one of the to the highest degree big domain nuclear fusion reaction groups of their eRA. Formed in New York in 1982, Special EFX was fundamentally a pas de deux comprised of guitarist Chieli Minucci and Hungarian-born drummer/percussionist George Jinda; debuting in 1985 with the record album Modern Manners, they often recruited other musicians to help pulp out their state of the prowess sound, among them Dave Grusin, Omar Hakim, and McCoy Tyner. Long favoring an accessible and slick jazz-pop wakeless, the duo significantly altered their indistinguishability with 1990's Just instantly Like Magic, adopting a more acoustic texture and exchanging Jinda's electronic pleximetry section for what he dubbed "wooden domain music." After 1995's Body Language, Minucci and Jinda schism up, with the latter chronic to work under the Special EFX lean; in other 1997, however, tragedy smitten when Jinda -- having lately realised the record album Here to Stay -- suffered a monumental cVA, after lapse into a coma. After several eld of selfsame poor wellness, Jinda passed away in New York on January 11, 2001.
